Ask AI: questions about contacts and documents

How to ask AI a question about people, notes and documents in the space, what it answers from and how to read the citations.

What it is for

AI answers questions such as "Which of our contacts have worked in banking?" or "Who talked about next year's budget?". It answers only from the data in the space and gives a source for every statement.

How to

  1. Click Ask AI (the icon next to Search) or press ⌘J.
  2. Type your question and press Enter or Ask.
  3. The answer contains a summary and cards of people. Each person has a reason and a citation: a document, note, action or team message with a date.
  4. Clicking a document citation opens a preview. Clicking a name or another citation opens the contact detail.
  5. Open in panel moves the answer to a panel beside the section. From the panel you open the contact detail and return with the Back to the answer button.

Good to know

  • AI draws on two sources: people's career extracted from documents, and the content of notes, actions, team messages and documents.
  • Career is extracted automatically from documents of the type CV, Ascenta professional profile and LinkedIn profile. For another document, use the Extract career button in the contact detail.
  • AI receives only what you are allowed to see in the space. Opener builds the links in the answer, not AI.
  • When more people match by career than fit in the answer, the app tells you.
  • A question uses the space's credits and counts toward the daily number of AI questions per member and toward the member's monthly cap, if the admin has set one.
  • History is not saved. A new question replaces the previous one, and the answer disappears when you reload the page.
  • AI answers in the language you use the app in. The same applies to the AI tab in the side panel.
  • A question can have 3 to 1,000 characters.

AI help: questions about how Opener works

Questions about the app ("How do I set a relationship rhythm?") are answered by AI help in the Help and support panel, not by Ask AI.

  1. Open Help and support in the left sidebar, or press ?.
  2. Type your question in the field and press Enter, or click Ask AI help.
  3. The answer is based only on help articles. Below it are the Sources: the articles it is based on, and the Open in the app button.
  4. Let us know whether the answer was Helpful or Not helpful. When the answer is not enough, Message support opens the support chat with your question.
  • AI help does not use credits and has its own limit of 30 questions per 24 hours.
  • It needs AI turned on in the space and at least the Search only AI level. Without AI, searching help articles and the chat still work.
  • AI does not make up what help does not cover, and offers the support chat. For a question about your contacts, it offers Ask AI.
  • We keep questions to help, searches without results and ratings for 90 days so that support can improve help. Only Opener support reads them; the AI answer is not saved.

Frequently asked questions

I do not see the Ask AI button.

AI is not turned on in the space, or your AI level is lower. See AI is not available.

Can AI make up an answer?

AI answers only from the records it finds, and Opener discards citations that were not in them. Still, treat the summary as a guide and check important details in the source.

Search returns a list of matches. AI answers in its own words and picks the people who fit the question.

Why does AI help not see my contacts?

AI help answers only from help articles about how Opener works. Questions about people, notes and documents belong in Ask AI.
