Merk connection: API key, filling in companies and importing selections
How an admin connects a Merk account with an API key, how to fill in company details by company ID one by one or in bulk, and how to import a saved selection from Merk.
What it is for
If your team has a Merk (Saleskit) account, an admin can connect it to Opener with an API key. Opener can then fill in company details by company ID straight from Merk and load a saved selection from Merk into the companies import. The data comes from your Merk account licence and counts towards its quotas; Opener only passes the request on.
How to
Connect Merk (admin)
- In Merk, copy the API key from your account settings, on the Napojení tab.
- In Opener, open Space settings, section Merk connection.
- Paste the key into API key and click Connect. Opener first verifies the key with Merk; an invalid key is not saved.
- Once connected, you only see the last 4 characters of the key, when it was verified and who changed it last.
Verify shows how many companies of the account's monthly quota are used and until when API access is valid. Replace key saves a new key instead of the old one, Remove disconnects Merk.
Fill in a company from Merk
In the detail of a company with a company ID (Czech, Slovak or without a country), the Company details section has Fill in from Merk. It fills in empty details: name, VAT ID, legal form, registered office, founding date, data box, employees, industry, website, Revenue (range), profit with the year, and the company phones and emails that Merk rates as reliable. A filled-in detail with a different value is not overwritten, only shown; you take the Merk value with Use next to that detail.
Fill in several companies at once
In Companies, tick the companies and click Fill in from Merk. Opener asks Merk in batches of 500 companies. At the end you see how many companies were filled in, how many stayed unchanged, which ones Merk does not know and which were skipped (no company ID, or outside Czechia and Slovakia). You take over differences from Merk in the company detail.
Import a saved selection from Merk
- Open the Import… wizard (in People & relationships, the More actions menu).
- Switch to Saved selection from Merk and click Load selections from Merk. You see the saved lists and saved searches of your Merk account.
- Click Choose next to a selection. Opener shows how many companies it has and how much of your quota is left.
- Click Load companies. Opener loads the basic company details (name, company ID, website, country, employees, industry) and continues like a Companies file import: columns, matching preview, import list, writing and the option to undo the import.
Companies are matched by company ID first, then by LinkedIn, website and name. A company already in Opener with a different company ID is not matched by name. A company without a company ID gets it from the import.
Good to know
- The key is stored encrypted in Opener and is never shown in full. Only a space admin or owner can enter, change and remove it. Key changes are recorded in the space activity log.
- Anyone who can write may fill in from Merk and import selections. Members may import a saved Merk selection even though a Companies file is imported by admins only.
- Opener only sends Merk the company ID and country of a company, nothing else about your contacts. Opener asks Merk only when you click, it does not download anything on its own.
- Revenue from Merk is a range (for example “1 - 2 mld. Kč”), so it is saved as Revenue (range). The exact revenue from the Merk page via the side panel or entered manually stays separate.
- Opener does not offer tracking company changes in Merk yet.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't I see Fill in from Merk?
Merk is not connected in the space, the company has no company ID, it is from a country other than Czechia or Slovakia, or you have read-only access.
What does the message about a used-up quota mean?
Merk refused the request because the account has used up its monthly quota, has expired, or does not include API access. Verify in Space settings shows the state; Merk raises the quota.
Why can't the list of selections load?
Merk allows loading saved selections at most 30 times an hour for the whole account. Try again shortly.
