Private and team labels
How to sort contacts and companies with your own labels that only you see, and with team labels managed by an admin.
What it is for
Labels sort contacts and companies by whatever you need: industry, campaign, source, priority. There are two kinds: your labels and team labels.
How to
Assign a label
- In the contact or company detail, in the Labels section, click Edit labels.
- Pick a label from the list, or type a new name and click Create. A new label is yours.
- The change is saved immediately.
To label several contacts at once, go to People & relationships, select the rows and choose Add label.
Manage labels
In the Labels section you add labels (Add label), rename them, delete them and choose their color.
Good to know
| Kind | Who sees it | Who creates and changes it | Who assigns it |
|---|---|---|---|
| My labels | only you | you | you |
| Team labels | the whole team, on contacts and companies | admins | everyone with write access |
- You recognize a team label by the team icon.
- An admin can convert your label to a team label with Convert to team label. Your assignments are carried over and your label disappears.
- Deleting a label removes it from all contacts. The contacts themselves stay.
- A name has at most 60 characters and must be unique, otherwise the app says You already have a label with this name.
- Only your labels can be assigned in bulk. You assign a team label in the detail or during an import.
- You can also add labels in the side panel on a LinkedIn profile.
- The label filter in lists offers only labels that at least one contact has.
- A team saved view cannot contain your labels.
- Label or list? A label is a lasting property of a contact ("investor", "interim"). For a group for an event or campaign, use a list: it has an order and the date added, and you delete it after the event without leaving a label in the catalog.
Frequently asked questions
Can a colleague see which labels I gave a contact?
Not your labels. Everyone sees team labels.
How do I create a team label?
An admin creates team labels in the Labels section, or converts one of their own labels to a team label.
