What it is for

A private contact is a card for a person that only you can see. It is useful for people you want to keep outside team work. Neither the space admin nor your colleagues can see it.

How to

  1. In People & relationships, open More actions in the toolbar and choose Add private contact.
  2. Fill in the name and, if you like, the LinkedIn profile, position, company and location, then confirm with Add.
  3. The contact opens in the detail with the Private label. You record steps, notes, follow-ups, documents, deals and tasks for yourself just like with any other contact.
  4. In the list, the Contact type filter shows your private contacts.

On LinkedIn, you take a person with the side panel button Take privately. If the team also has a card for the profile, you switch between Shared and Private in the side panel, and it always shows which card you are writing to.

To delete the contact, open the menu next to the name in the detail and choose Delete private contact. It is deleted with everything that belongs to it and cannot be restored.

Good to know

  • A private contact is not counted anywhere: it is not in the Team overviews, in Company coverage, in action plans, in campaigns, in calling, in the export or in duplicate suggestions.
  • Colleagues will not find it in search, in AI answers or in connected AI apps. You will.
  • You log emails to private contacts with your own address in My settings, tab Connections, section Address for private contacts. Emails sent with it are logged only to your private contacts, the regular address only to shared ones.
  • Its company is only text and is not linked to the companies of the space. It can have only your own labels, not team labels.
  • If a colleague adds the same person for the team, a regular shared contact is created. Both contacts exist side by side and are not connected in any way.
  • The admin allows private contacts in Space settings with Members can have private contacts. If the admin turns it off, no new private contacts can be created and your existing ones stay.
  • If the admin removes you from the space, your private contacts are deleted.

Frequently asked questions

Can a colleague or I turn my private contact into a shared one?

No. A private contact stays private. To share the person with the team, add them as a regular contact; the private one does not change.

Will the admin see how many private contacts I have?

No. The admin cannot see private contacts or their number.
