Position watch: a reminder to check a contact's position
How to let Opener remind you when it is time to check whether a contact changed position or company, for yourself or for a whole list.
What it is for
For selected contacts, Opener reminds you when it is time to open their LinkedIn profile and check whether they have a new position or company. Opener never visits LinkedIn itself; it only reminds you.
How to
Watch a contact for yourself
- In the contact detail, open the ⋯ menu next to the name and choose Verify position.
- Choose when to remind you: In a month, In 3 months, In 6 months, In a year, or Pick a date. Later checks follow at the same interval.
- Optionally choose Also when there is no contact, for example 90 days without contact. The contact then shows up to verify earlier if nothing has happened with it for that many days. A long silence is often a sign of a job change.
- Click Watch. The contact detail shows a Position watch section with the next check date.
Watch a whole list for the team
- In the detail of a people list, open the ⋯ menu and choose Watch positions….
- Choose how often to check, optionally also the no-contact condition, and click Watch. The list name shows the Watches positions label.
- The watch applies to all contacts in the list, including those added later. Turn it off in the same window with Turn off.
Verify the position
- When the date comes, the contact shows up in My action plan in the To verify block.
- Open the contact's LinkedIn profile and compare the position and company.
- If nothing changed, click No change (in the contact detail Verified, no change).
- If the position is new, click Change position in the contact detail, enter the new position and company and click Save change.
Good to know
- A check or a recorded change applies to everyone who watches the contact. The contact leaves the To verify block for everyone and the date starts over for everyone.
- A contact from a watched list shows up for whoever works it (the processor, otherwise the owner). If nobody works it, it shows up for whoever turned on the watch for the list. The first time after the chosen period from turning it on, for contacts added later from when they were added to the list.
- No contact and cadence are two different things. Cadence reminds you to get in touch with the contact (in Follow-ups). Position watch reminds you to check the position on the profile. The no-contact period is counted the same way as for cadence: from the last action with the contact (except Looked up), the last check or the start of the watch, whichever was latest. A contact due because of no contact has the No contact label in the block.
- The To verify block does not count towards action plan goals or progress and works without a plan too.
- After a recorded position change, colleagues working with the contact get a notification: the owner, the processor and those who watch it. You do not.
- You can also watch colleagues' shared contacts that you can see. A private contact can only be watched by its owner.
- The watch on a list is turned on by whoever manages the list. Edit or turn off your own watch of a contact in the Position watch section with Edit watch and Stop watching.
Frequently asked questions
Does Opener download LinkedIn profiles itself?
No. Opener only reminds you that it is time to look. You always open the profile yourself.
Why can't I see a button to stop watching a contact from a list?
A watch by list is turned off on the list, not on the contact.
