Notifications (the bell)
What the bell in the top bar shows, how you read notifications and how they differ from the counts for tasks, follow-ups and messages.
What it is for
The Notifications bell on the left of the top bar shows events that concern you: what happened and who did it. There is nothing to tick off. When an event leads to work, a click takes you there.
How to
- A dot on the bell means you have unread notifications. The bell does not show a number.
- Hover over the bell. After a moment the five latest events appear with the link All.
- Click the bell. The Notifications panel opens with events grouped by day: Today, Yesterday and Earlier.
- Click an event. It is marked as read and opens where it leads: the contact detail next to the list, a task, the support chat, Feedback, Plan or What's new.
- The Mark all as read button marks all events as read at once.
You can also open the panel from the search window (⌘K, on Windows Ctrl K) by typing "Notifications".
Good to know
- Work and events: the numbers at Tasks, Follow-ups and Messages in the top bar show work you have to do. The bell shows what happened.
- What you find in the bell:
- a colleague hands a contact over to you or hands it to you for processing,
- a contact you owned or processed is now looked after by a colleague, or its processing has ended,
- a colleague assigns or hands over a task to you, or replies in the thread of your task,
- a new reply from support in the chat,
- a new survey to fill in in the Feedback section,
- news in Opener,
- only for the owner and admins of the space: a colleague accepts an invitation to the space, the trial is ending soon or has been extended.
- Merging: the same events from the same day are combined into one row, for example "Katka and others (2) hand contacts over to you". For a bulk handover the row shows the number of contacts.
- Only what you may see: the bell never shows an event about a contact you cannot see (for example a colleague's private contact) or about a task you can no longer see. You do not get notifications about what you did yourself.
- Contact handover appears in the bell when a colleague does it in the contact detail or by a bulk owner change in a list. An owner change by import does not appear yet.
- How long: events are kept for 90 days and are then deleted automatically.
- Phone and email: phone notifications and emails work unchanged next to the bell. You set them in My settings, tabs Mobile and Reminders.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the bell not show a number?
So that it differs from work. The number at tasks, follow-ups and messages tells you how much is waiting for you. The dot on the bell only tells you that something happened.
Do I have to deal with notifications?
No, reading them is enough. You deal with the work an event leads to in its section, for example in Tasks.
Where is the bell on my phone?
In the top bar next to Messages.
