What it is for

The Opener Team side panel is a panel in Chrome. On a LinkedIn profile it shows who in the team is working with the person, and you record a step with one click. You connect it once, with a token from the app.

How to

  1. In the app, open My settings (your card at the bottom left), tab Side panel.
  2. Click Add to Chrome. The Chrome Web Store opens, where you confirm the installation.
  3. Pin the Opener Team icon: the puzzle piece next to the address bar, then the pin. Click the icon and the side panel opens with the Connection screen.
  4. In the app, in the Connect the panel part, click Create token and copy the token. It is shown only once.
  5. In the side panel, paste the token, tick the consent to data processing and click Connect.

You can then open the side panel with the icon in Chrome, by clicking the Opener Team badge on LinkedIn or with the logo at the top left of the app.

Good to know

  • The Side panel tab also opens from the logo at the top left of the app and from the link in the guide on the Connection screen of the side panel. The logo follows the state of the side panel:
  • not installed: the logo shows a + badge and leads to the installation (Connect the side panel),
  • installed but not connected: the logo shows a dot and leads straight to the Connect the panel step (Finish connecting the side panel),
  • connected: the logo opens and closes the side panel. After connecting, a bubble at the logo reminds you of this once.
  • In a browser that does not support extensions (Safari, Firefox, a phone), the logo leads nowhere and its tooltip says: This browser does not support installing extensions.
  • A token is valid for 30 days. After that, create a new one and paste it into the side panel through Settings, Replace token.
  • A token belongs to one space. If you have several spaces, create the token in the one where you want to use the side panel.
  • The side panel from the Chrome Web Store updates itself. A manually installed side panel (Manual installation (ZIP)) is only a fallback and does not update itself.
  • In the Connected devices part you see the side panels connected with your token. Disconnect a device you do not recognise with Disconnect. Disconnect all disconnects all of them at once.
  • The Disconnect button in the side panel itself deletes the token only in this browser. To make the token stop working, disconnect the device in the app.
  • Sign out of all devices also disconnects all side panels. You then need a new token.
  • An admin must allow the side panel in the space. A new space has the side panel turned off.
  • Collecting people from searches into New contacts also requires a permission from an admin. Once it is granted, create a new token.

Frequently asked questions

I do not see the button for creating a token.

You have read-only access. The side panel cannot be connected with it, so contact the space admin.

I installed the side panel manually from a ZIP. What should I do with it?

Install the side panel from the Chrome Web Store, remove the manual version on the Chrome extensions page and create a new token. The side panel from the store starts without a token.

After connecting, the side panel shows nothing.

You will find the steps in the article The side panel does not connect or shows nothing.
